The Fourth International Conference on COMmunication Systems and NETworkS (COMSNETS) was held in Bangalore, India , from 3rd January 2012 to 7th January 2012. COMSNETS is a premier international conference to discuss developments in the Networking/ Communications Systems and Telecommunications services. The aim of the event is to provide a common platform for academia, industry and venture capitalists for discussing cutting edge researches as well as way forward for new innovative businesses and technologies.

Vegayan’s SiMPLuS product suite was selected for demo at COMSNETS 2012 in the “Demos & Exhibits” category (on 5 & 6 January). The event indeed provided a good platform to showcase Vegayan’s SiMPLuS suite to the participants. The participants (both from the academia & industry) at the SiMPLuS demo booth were quite impressed with the products’ capabilities demonstrated to them.

Yet again, Vegayan was one of the shortlisted companies for its innovative products at INNOVATIONS 2011 hosted by Persistent Systems at their sprawling campus in Pune. There were altogether 14 such companies which showcased their innovative technology/products at the event. It was a one day event which started off with a keynote speech by Mr. Chetan Maini – the man who designed India’s first electric car –“Reva”. This was followed by Innovator presentations (Group I) which included Vegayan’s presentation. The presentations were followed by a common Q&A session wherein lots of inquisitive queries were asked by the audience; with equally interesting answers from the Innovators.

This was followed by a lunch-break cum exhibition at the exhibit floor where the Innovators had setup their stalls for showcasing their innovative ideas/products. Vegayan stall also had a good number of visitors who wanted to get more details about our company and products, our customers, the markets we cater etc.

After about an hour at the exhibit floor, we were again ready for yet another exciting round of Innovator presentations (Group II) and a common Q&A session. This was followed by a short tea break.

In the last session, an interesting presentation was delivered by L R Natarajan of Titan Industries- Jewellery Business Unit (Tanishq) on how its innovative practices revamped the jewellery business in India.

It was indeed a wonderful experience watching Innovators present and demonstrate their novel ideas. Few of these were quite impressive and if implemented, would bring in lot of benefits for the common man in terms of utility and affordability.

We visited Reliance Tech Innovation center at DAKC Campus for a workshop. I have been at the campus before, however this time I also visited their lab testing facilities. What a testing facility ? Mind-blowing !. Believe me it’s one sight , array of servers, routers, switches all stacked up and cabled. Definitely at par with the best of best by global standards.

The workshop was given by Dr. Saraph, it covered Enabling QoS and Operational challenges for MPLS networks.

We had interesting exchange of ideas and information. For me technical discussions post workshop were more informative mainly because of it’s one to one nature. We definitely gained more insight into how things works at NOC, as they addressed our specific queries. I thank the folks at Reliance for this opportunity and their hospitality.

Some of us (Amit, Dakshina, Prashant and Vijay ) from Vegayan attended the two days sessions on MPLS Technology at MTNL, Training Centre in Hiranandani, Powai. Prof. Girish Saraph was the speaker in those sessions. The sessions were attended by high ranking officials from MTNL. I must say it was very good experience to know about the latest in MPLS Technology tracing through earlier connection oriented technologies like X.25, frame relay and ATM. I am eagerly looking forward to gain from similar events in future.
